London is one of the most famous cities in the world. For centuries it has captured the imagination of people the world over. But there are some sights every visitors to London must have on their itinerary to fully appreciate the history of the city.

The world-famous British Museum is a must-see for any visitor. It houses exhibits which display the works of people from around the world. Those works represent human achievement from prehistoric times to the present. They include mummies from ancient Egypt, sculptures from the Parthenon and the Rosetta Stone. Amazingly there is no entry fee. However some special exhibitions do require visitors to get tickets.

London’s National Gallery is an incredible place. Located on the historic Trafalgar Square, the gallery holds some of the greatest masterpieces of Western European art covering the period from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Visitors can see the works of such masters as Botticelli, da Vinci, Renoir and Van Gogh. Incredibly visitors can see all this for free.

The London Eye is one of the most stunning features of the London skyline. It’s the highest observation wheel in the world. The wheel has 32 capsules and each of them can hold 25 people. A 30 minute ride on the London Eye offers a breathtaking view of over 55 of the most famous landmarks in London. It’s an experience that should not be missed.

One of the most famous structures in the world is the Tower of London. For over 900 years it has served as everything from a royal palace, to a jewel house, arsenal and even a zoo. Not only can one see a medieval king’s bedchamber, one can see the Crown Jewels as well.

The Savoy Theatre, which opened in 1881, was the first theatre, and in fact the world’s first public building, entirely lit by electricity. Located in the City of Westminster, London, England in the Strand, this West End theatre was built on the site of the old Savoy Palace. It has featured the premieres of works by Gilbert and Sullivan, Noël Coward and many others.

London is a fantastic place. There is so much to see and do. The sights identified above are but a few of the outstanding places to visit in this world-famous city.

Scotland

Although being part of Great Britain, Scotland has a history and culture all of its own. Recently getting its own government the Scottish are a very proud raise, and rightly so. Famous for poetry, kilts, bagpipes and the haggis Scotland has a diverse culture and is a very beautiful country. There are many great mountains and Lakes (Lochs) including the tourist hot spot Loch ness, apparently the home of a great serpent like monster/dinosaur that has been sighted many times (including supposed photographs) but never actually proven to exist.

Edinburgh is the capitol city of Scotland, the second largest after Glasgow and is one of Europe’s largest financial centres. Scotland has been home to some of the worlds greatest inventors writers and poets, including Robert Burns, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and apparently JK Rowling started writing Harry Potter in an Edinburgh coffee shop. Inventors include Alexander Bell (telephone) and Alexander Flemming (penicillin).

It’s easy to see why Scotland has been home to some of the greatest minds and writers the world has ever seen due to the sheer aw-inspiring beauty of the countryside and highlands, as well as the living history that is the cities and towns. It would be hard not to be creative when your in an environment like that…
